The problem to solve:

A small business restaurant has outdated branding and no longer attracts new customers. They are in need of a fresh identity—including the business name. Build a completely new visual identity system and save their business.

I had to develop a visual style, identity, and theme for my selected restaurant business. Care must be taken to ensure that the business I develop has potential for enough projects (logos, stationary sets, collateral) to carry throughout the problem.

Creative brief:

Company: Duffy’s Bar & Grill

Location: Osseo, Minnesota

Background: Duffy’s Bar and Grill is a local American bar and grill restaurant in the small suburban town of Osseo, Minnesota. They pride themselves on being a local neighborhood bar and grill to get together at. They even use their meat from another local business, Osseo Meat Market and Deli. Duffy’s serves a wide variety of entrees, including burgers, wings, homemade pizzas, alcoholic beverages, and a breakfast menu. It’s been in business since 1989, and its identity is influenced by Irish aesthetics.

Ages: The target audience is adults aged 25-40 years old, preferably those with families. Reaching further towards children ages 5-12 would be even better to make the business more family-friendly.

Audience: The audience wants to support more local businesses than dining out at a chain restaurant.

Geographic: suburban

Tone: friendly, lively, domestic
